Gate.io $NAVI ticker NAME change announcement: Summary: Gate.io HAS CHANGED THE TICKER NAME for the $NAVI token to $ANAVI, without notice and in an extremely unprofessional manner. This DOES NOT affect trading, withdrawals, deposits or anything else on Gate.io or KuCoin. If you trade on Gate, you will see in the Wallet section the name changed from NAVI to ANAVI. Everything else stays the same. Timeline: - Gate.io team messaged us yesterday, Sunday the 4th of February 2024, asking if we would be ok to change the name of our ticker on their exchange as it would conflict with a new project they were about to launch. - We politely refused, citing the fact that we have invested heavily in marketing our ticker name on everything from CoinMarketCap, CoinGecko, EtherScan, all our social networks with the relevant tags and hashtags, our communities and, of course, our apps and websites. This was mind boggling for us and, when we asked why we would even consider this and what the name of the project was, we received no reply. - this morning, on Monday, February 5th, 2024, we saw an announcement by them that they would halt trading for a few hours for the name change. The new name for our token on their platform was to be ANAVI instead of NAVI. Again, no prior notice was given to us and no further communication, not even the new suggested name, was made from their team. Why they did this? - because they can. They are a CEX and can do whatever they want with their platform. - the new project they intend to list has the ticker $NAVX, but they are called Navi Protocol on SUI network. The reason why they wanted a name change was because: a) they invested in the new token b) they didn't want the volumes from the listing to pour into our token by mistake, given that users will likely search for the word "NAVI" from the Navi Protocol name. What happens now: - Trading HAS RESUMED on Gate.io after an hour or so of technical change. Withdrawals and deposits are available once again. The ticker is indeed ANAVI, but only on Gate.io. - THIS ONLY IMPACTS the NAME of our token on Gate.io, nothing and nowhere else. - We will continue, for now, to have liquidity and a presence on Gate.io under the new name as we assess the situation. - This has only accelerated our decision to list on a DEX asap. - We spoke with our contacts at KuCoin.com and no name change is happening on there. - We will continue to market our ticker as we have in the past, the $NAVI token remains unchanged on ALL other platforms and exchanges. - We have been busy this morning discussing with advisors and contacts in the crypto industry and such a forced name change is not only unprecedented, but extremely upsetting and unprofessional. We need to have backups and list on a DEX and other exchanges so that we hedge such risks in the future. - ironically, this listing might actually help us with the confusion, not that we are counting on it or anything. - Regardless, this is a one sided decision over which we don't have power. It is possible that once the listing of the new project is over, the ticker name will be changed back but we don't have any information on this yet. It is obvious now that the decision was made to avoid volumes to go to our token instead of the new listing.
